El botón de inicio de sesión de Google+ autentica al usuario y administra el flujo de OAuth 2.0, lo que simplifica su integración con las API de Google.
Agregué el alcance adicional ''https: // www.googleapis.com/auth/gmail.readonly'' a la Autorización de Google+, para acceder a la API de Gmail, como se especifica en
(Enlace: developers.google.com/gmail/api/v1/reference/users/threads/list ).
En este punto tengo un objeto GoogleApiClient inicializado.
El objeto GoogleApiClient ajusta una ServiceConnection (enlace: developer.android.com/reference/android/content/ServiceConnection.html ) a los servicios de Google Play. El objeto GoogleApiClient se utiliza para comunicarse con la API de Google+ y se vuelve funcional después de que se haya establecido la conexión asíncrona con el servicio, lo que indica que:
- Los servicios de Google Play se ejecutan en el dispositivo y la actividad de la aplicación ha vinculado con éxito la conexión del servicio.
- el usuario ha seleccionado una cuenta que desea usar con la aplicación, y

(Febrero de 2017) La API de Gmail (v1 launched junio de 2014) es la mejor manera de integrar la funcionalidad de Gmail en sus aplicaciones (y se prefiere a POP / IMAP y SMTP). Para poder utilizar esta y la mayoría de las otras API de Google desde Android, debe obtener la Biblioteca de clientes de las API de Google para Android (o para Java más general, la Biblioteca de clientes de Java API de Google ).
Ahora para algunas muestras de trabajo: aquí están el inicio rápido de Android y el inicio rápido de Java más general. Tener la referencia de JavaDocs de Gmail a tu lado tampoco es una mala idea. OAuth2 es ahora la forma preferida de realizar autenticación, lo que significa que necesitará un código que se vea así, además del scope correcto:

Aparte de esta "configuración", el OP tiene casi todo lo necesario para que algo funcione:
- Tener un proyecto en la consola de desarrolladores y habilitar la API de Gmail con el hash SHA1 (como se describe anteriormente en el inicio rápido de Android)
- Implementando OAuth2 con el (los) alcance (s) correcto (s)
- Hacer la llamada a
ListThreadsResponse listResponse = mService.users().threads().list(user).execute();
- el inicio rápido usalabels()
para que solo puedas cambiar athreads()
