Me enfrenté al mismo error recientemente. Aparentemente, el problema es que Gradle 2.2-alpha * no sabe cómo manejar correctamente las imágenes de nueve parches de EditText . Especialmente uno que se encuentra en res/drawable-v21/abc_edit_text_material.xml . Este es un problema actualmente abierto en code.google [Referencia]

La solución es simple, solo degrada la versión de Gradle a 2.1 por ahora en lugar de 2.2-alpha2 o incluso 2.2-alpha3 . Funcionó perfectamente para mí cuando hice esto.

He estado tratando de resolver este problema por un día completo ahora. Creé un nuevo proyecto en Android Studio y elegí la actividad de navegación de pestañas. A partir de ahí, agregué un texto simple de EditText en el XML de fragment_main.xml y lo ejecuté. Siempre me da un error de inflación EditText. Esto no ocurre con ningún otro elemento, por ejemplo, TextViews

Nota: Lo único que cambié fue agregar un EditText a fragment_main.xml después de crear el proyecto con una actividad de navegación con pestañas. Ninguno de los Java fue cambiado. También donde se ve el "nombre del paquete", este es en realidad el nombre completo de mi paquete, simplemente lo eliminé para esta cuestión de privacidad.
